The Bow-Wielding Legend Returns, But This Time… It’s Not Stallone.
Hollywood is preparing to revive one of the greatest action icons of all time: John Rambo. But instead of Sylvester Stallone’s long hair, red headband, and battle-hardened stare, audiences will be greeted by an entirely new face – Noah Centineo, the actor once dubbed Netflix’s “prince of rom-coms.”
The John Rambo prequel will take viewers back to a time before First Blood, when Rambo was still a young Green Beret recruit stepping onto the battlefields of Vietnam. This isn’t the story of a weary warrior tired of life, but rather the journey of a young man – full of ideals and explosive energy – who will be forged and worn down by the brutality of war.
Directed by Jalmari Helander (Sisu) and penned by the Black Adam writing duo, the film promises to preserve the gritty, tense spirit of the original Rambo series while breathing new life into it: a modern pace, brutal action, and psychological depth. Centineo won’t be “imitating” Stallone, but instead creating a different Rambo – one who is youthful, passionate, yet already carries the seeds of the solitude and darkness fans know so well.
With the Vietnamese jungle recreated in Thailand and high-impact military action sequences, John Rambo is not just a bold casting gamble, but also a test of whether an action franchise tied to a single star for over 40 years can be reborn. The question is: will audiences accept a Rambo who isn’t Stallone – or will this be a once-in-a-lifetime gamble?
