Wednesday 2 (2025)

The American series *Wednesday*, a blend of horror and supernatural comedy, is inspired by the iconic character Wednesday Addams from *The Addams Family*. Created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, it stars Jenna Ortega in the lead role, accompanied by an exceptional cast that includes Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Isaac Ordóñez, Gwendoline Christie, Riki Lindhome, Jamie McShane, Fred Armisen, and Christina Ricci. Tim Burton, who directed four of the eight episodes and also served as executive producer, brings his signature visual style to the narrative.

The plot follows Wednesday as she tries to solve a mystery involving monsters at her school. Interestingly, Burton had already been involved in other *Addams Family*-related projects: he turned down directing the 1991 film and worked on a stop-motion animated film that never materialized. In October 2020, it was announced that he would direct this series, which was later acquired by Netflix.

Filming took place in Romania between September 2021 and March 2022. *Wednesday* officially premiered on November 16, 2022, and arrived on Netflix on November 23, receiving mostly positive reviews. Jenna Ortega’s performance was particularly praised, although some critics noted certain similarities to The CW’s teen dramas. Just two weeks after its premiere, it became the third most-watched English-language series in Netflix history.
